I photographed Karli on a white background in my studio when I took this dance portrait. She had performed several dance poses and we had almost reached the end of her session. I noticed that the dance outfit she was wearing had a hood, so I asked her if she minded if we took a few images with the hood on. She agreed. and I was happy to have an image that I knew would really stand out! I thought the stripes on her costume cause your eyes to be drawn immediately to them. Then I wondered if adding more stripes to the background would cause the viewer to be drawn more to her face. It never hurts to try different things and see if you like it. Luckily for me, I felt like all the stripes worked for this image!

To create the stripes in the first image, I added about 20 black lines. I duplicated the layer and flipped it, making the lines go in the opposite direction. I used the warp tool in Photoshop to bend the lines in a way that matched up with the lines on her costume and then cropped the image. I would consider this image to be more of a fashion portrait than a dance portrait, because of it's unique costume and background.
